Maturity

Wow, someone just shared this in a group I’m part of and I felt it deserved a post all to itself here. This is chock-full of insights and wisdom. Some Sunday stimulation to enjoy!

(Image: Martha Borreguero)

MATURITY

is the most adaptable and youthful ability of all: the ability to live fully and equally in multiple contexts; most especially, the ability, despite any grief or losses, to courageously inhabit the past the present and the future all at once.

The wisdom that comes from maturity is recognized through a disciplined refusal to choose between or isolate three powerful dynamics that form human identity: what has happened, what is happening now and what is about to occur.

Immaturity is shown by making false choices: living only in the past, or only in the present, or only in the future, or even, living only two out of the three.

Maturity is not a static arrived platform, where life is viewed from a calm, untouched oasis of wisdom, but a living elemental frontier between what has happened, what is happening now and the consequences of that past and present; first imagined and then lived into the waiting future.

Maturity calls us to risk ourselves as much as immaturity, but for a bigger picture, a larger horizon; for a powerfully generous outward incarnation of our inward qualities and not for gains that make us smaller, even in the winning.

Immaturity always beckons, offering a false haven, an ersatz safety, in one state or the other: a hiding place and disappearance in the past, a false isolation of the present, or an unobtainable sure prediction of the future. But maturity beckons also, asking us to be larger, more fluid, more elemental, less cornered, less unilateral, a living conversational intuition between the inherited story, the one we are privileged to inhabit and the one, if we are large enough and broad enough, moveable enough and even, here enough, just, astonishingly, about to occur.

10 quotes, worry vacuum, progress, love story, and Abe

TIPS FOR TODAY:

# 1 – Ten type-written quotes, thanks to a post on Oprah.com…..

See them all here: http://www.oprah.com/inspiration/Inspiring-Quotes-Written-on-Typewriters

# 2 – Here’s something that was featured in Brain Johnson’s Optimizer newsletter. Especially like the 3rd to the last sentence…..very good point to make….

THE ULTIMATE WORRY VACUUM MACHINE

“Researchers conducting the Zen meditation study wanted to know if meditation practice changed people’s ability to recover from the intrusion of a word that unexpectedly appeared on the computer screen, which would strongly suggest that meditation improved recovery from the distractions induced by spontaneous thought as well. After the interruptions, the experienced meditator’s brains did indeed return faster to a relaxed state than non-meditator’s brains. Intensive meditation practice seems to reduce the elaborative thinking that normally occurs when we evaluate a thought and meditators are able to clear their minds of distractions more quickly than those who don’t meditate.

Obviously, this type of thought control could be useful in dealing with worries that arise in stressful testing situations. Worries about screwing up often cause flubbed performances because they use up valuable working-memory resources that could otherwise be devoted to test taking. By training the brain to discard negative thoughts, you can thwart the negative effects of stress. Discarding these thoughts is not the same as trying to ignore them or dismiss or suppress them, which uses up working-memory. When a worrisome thought arises, you acknowledge it, name it (as if actually identifying it and writing it down), but then let go of it. You don’t attach any more brainpower to it.”

# 4 – Wow, a great story…..short and sweet. If you are an animal lover you may need to have a hanky at the ready……

# 5 – And from Abe…..

You think that the goal is to be over there, and we say the goal is the journey over there; the goal is the fun you have along the way on your way to over there. — Abraham

Happy Thanksgiving 2016!

Thought I would open with a prayer/blessing by Julie Renee and then close with a reblog of my Self-help Health post for the day…..

Mother-Father God, we thank you for all that is good and right and wonderful in our world, for the miracles of each and every day that we are alive to enjoy this incredible paradise and for the gifts of regeneration, rejuvenation and unending grace that is always there for us! Help us to see what is hidden, to know that we do not always know, that there is mystery and more in the unseen realms and to trust in your profound and deeply abundantly nourishing love for us everyday.

Thank you for the Helpers Angelic Realm, Golden Legion, Jesus and Mary, the Gods and Goddesses from all greater and lesser known traditions who stand with us and for us to continue to establish and bring about a true heaven on earth.

Help us to see where we can offer more, be a spirit of love and giving and let go of neediness and lack, knowing that you have provided for us with endless love, and fantastic wealth! Help us to receive all you are sending our way, clear our path and help us remove the impediments to our deepest and richest fulfillment.

In you Divine Name we humbly ask and are profoundly grateful for these thy gifts of bountiful love! Amen. So Be It. — Julie Renee

And from Self-help Health…..

Make Every Day Thanksgiving Day!

There are numerous studies that show that gratitude and thanks giving are good for the mind, body and spirit. So if you want to be healthier and happier, make EVERY day Thanksgiving!

By Dr. Mercola

Each year on the fourth Thursday of November, Americans gather together with friends and family for a Thanksgiving feast — a ritual that many psychologists believe actually fosters greater happiness and health.

And, while the ritual of giving thanks once a year is beneficial, doing it more often could be life changing. At least that’s what science suggests.

THE BENEFITS OF RITUAL GET-TOGETHERS AT MEALTIME

As noted by Barbara Fiese, a psychologist and author of “Family Routines and Rituals”:

“Through direct observation of family mealtimes at home, we’ve found that how families communicate with one another during meals is related to the children’s health.

For example, when families show genuine concern about their child’s daily activities … teachers report these children are less likely to show acting-out behaviors in school.

What’s more, these interactions make children with chronic health conditions such as asthma feel more secure, and they’re more likely to report that they feel better throughout the day.”

Bill Doherty, a family therapist and researcher added:

The classic outcomes of regular rituals for families are coherence (a sense of identity) and connection (a sense of closeness) …

[But] barriers to good interaction — such as cellphone use, people getting up from the table and arguments — were even more strongly related (in a negative direction) to children’s psychological well-being and academic performance.

The implication is that we have to pay attention to doing some things well during meals — such as staying at the table and laughing together — but also avoid negative interactions.”

GRATITUDE INCREASES HAPPINESS — AND HEALTH

As suggested in the video above, research shows that gratitude is a cornerstone of happiness. Moreover, actually expressing your gratitude publicly or openly yields greater results than keeping it to yourself.

If you typically cringe when it’s time to go around the table and share what you’re grateful for, remembering the benefits you reap may ease your discomfort. As noted in a previous CNN report on gratitude and Thanksgiving:2

“… there are some very practical reasons to get into the spirit of things, by taking a minute to remember the reasons you’re blessed. These are lessons that can be applied year-round.”

According to studies, the benefits of gratitude rituals — be it giving thanks at mealtime, keeping a gratitude journal, or sending thank-you notes — include:3,4,5

  • Improved sleep, especially if your mind has a tendency to go into overdrive with negative thoughts and worries at bedtime
  • Higher levels of happiness and a more optimistic outlook on life
  • Greater likelihood to engage in healthy activities such as exercise
  • Higher relationship satisfaction
  • Higher work performance (in one study, managers who expressed gratitude saw a 50 percent increase in the employees’ performance)

Studies have also shown that gratitude can produce a number of measurable effects on a number of systems in your body, all of which can translate into improved health. Biological systems beneficially affected by gratitude include:6

Mood neurotransmitters (serotonin, norepinephrine) Inflammatory and immune systems (cytokines)
Reproductive hormones (testosterone) Stress hormones (cortisol)
Social bonding hormones (oxytocin) Blood pressure, cardiac and EEG rhythms
Cognitive and pleasure related neurotransmitters (dopamine) Blood sugar

“Feedforward,” vision, plant love, blessings, the election, Jeffrey Allan, and Abe

TIPS FOR TODAY:

# 1 – This is a fairly long read, but interesting, insightful article by Marshall Goldsmith about giving “feedforward,” instead of feedback. Something possibly every counselor, coach, teacher, business owner, parent….really just about anyone….should read….

Providing feedback has long been considered to be an essential skill for leaders. As they strive to achieve the goals of the organization, employees need to know how they are doing. They need to know if their performance is in line with what their leaders expect. They need to learn what they have done well and what they need to change. Traditionally, this information has been communicated in the form of “downward feedback” from leaders to their employees. Just as employees need feedback from leaders, leaders can benefit from feedback from their employees. Employees can provide useful input on the effectiveness of procedures and processes and as well as input to managers on their leadership effectiveness. This “upward feedback” has become increasingly common with the advent of 360 degree multi-rater assessments.

But there is a fundamental problem with all types of feedback: it focuses on the past, on what has already occurred—not on the infinite variety of opportunities that can happen in the future. As such, feedback can be limited and static, as opposed to expansive and dynamic.

Over the past several years, I have observed more than thirty thousand leaders as they participated in a fascinating experiential exercise. In the exercise, participants are each asked to play two roles. In one role, they are asked provide feedforward —that is, to give someone else suggestions for the future and help as much as they can. In the second role, they are asked to accept feedforward—that is, to listen to the suggestions for the future and learn as much as they can. The exercise typically lasts for 10-15 minutes, and the average participant has 6-7 dialogue sessions.

# 2 – A lovely picture and text from my blogging buddy Sarah Hughes, who has a big heart, immense love for Nature, and a real eye with the camera. You may want to check out her A Wildflower’s Melody posts whenever you need a bright spot in your day….

Wildflowers in the woods at Allerton Park, April 16, 2016.

When I count my blessings,

One of them is you.

May joy light your way,

And love fill your heart.

# 3 – Oh, I absolutely love this that was part of a newsletter from Rob Brezsny….

May a good vision catch me

May a benevolent vision take hold of me, and move me

May a deep and full vision come over me, and burst open around me

May a luminous vision inform me, enfold me.

May I awaken into the story that surrounds,

May I awaken into the beautiful story.

May the wondrous story find me;

May the wildness that makes beauty arise between two lovers

arise beautifully between my body and the body of this land,

between my flesh and the flesh of this earth,

here and now,

on this day,

May I taste something sacred.

—David Abram

# 4 – Wonderful image and text…..

With life as short as a half taken breath,
don’t plant anything but Love. ~ Rumi

# 5 – Regardless of who you voted for in the presidential election or how you feel about the results, I think this message I got from James Tyman is something everyone can benefit from…….

Don’t get me wrong…this is not the outcome I was hoping from. But that’s not the point, is it? My happiness does not depend on anything happening out there but rather, within my own heart. That’s where the miracle unfolds, and if we’re willing to accept everything, no matter how far it is from what we wanted to happen, then happiness becomes a constant state. I AM Happy NO MATTER WHAT.

I spent the morning praying for Donald Trump, not cursing him. Yes, of course I was shocked and dismayed, but several days ago I asked thousands of people to pray for the “highest good” to be done in this election. Part of that involves me letting go of what I think needs to happen and trusting what actually is happening. It’s impossible for me to know what humanity needs to evolve into love, but I am willing to play my role NO MATTER WHAT. That’s the key – to commit to love regardless of the direction we seem to be heading.

I invite you to join me in this brave new life. A friend of mine used to say: “Ask for what you want, accept what you get, and work on the difference.” I did not vote for Donald Trump, but that doesn’t mean I have to fall into despair. You are needed more than ever now! If you feel sad or disheartened, that’s okay, but do what you have to do to move through those feelings back into love. That’s the only place the real work can be done. — James Twyman

# 6 – This free masterclass w/ Jeffrey Allan is only going to be available thru Monday. I highly recommend signing up for it. Have taken his Duality training and it was some of the best money I’ve ever spent. This free class he’s offering now is a lead-in to his new course on Unlocking Transcendence and talks about using your inner compass to navigate the energy world in a way that guarantees success in the physical world . Cool! You can find out more here.

# 7 – And a gentle reminder from Abraham…..

You don’t have to work at being in the high vibration that is natural to you, because it is natural to you. But you do have to stop holding the thoughts that cause you to lower your vibration. It’s a matter of no longer giving your attention to things that don’t allow your cork to float or don’t allow you to vibrate in harmony with who you really are.–Abraham

Choose your thoughts, world meditation, time change & health resources, quitter, and quotes

# 2 – With all the fear and anxiety this particular presidential election has caused/is causing, some of you may be guided to be part of this event to help shift the energies….

# 4 – Maybe being a quitter is sometimes a good thing. :-)

# 5 – Hmm, I don’t remember seeing this before. Seriously though, a good reminder…….

The more you say “I don’t remember,” the more you cannot remember. You cannot find something that’s “lost”. When you’ve decided that it’s lost, when it’s lost to you, it is lost. The Universe could not possibly show it to you. –Abraham

And a good one from a book by Gregg Braden….

“At this time, fear is the single pattern of interference known to prevent whole earth heart brain cell resonance. Stated another way, fear is the emotion that keeps you separate from your world, from those that you love, from feeling good about yourself, from creation and ultimately, your creator…..fear, without the judgment of the ‘goodness’ or ‘badness’ of fear, simply represents a quality of thought and emotion that discourages our relationship to creation.”—Walking Between the Worlds

Rumi x 2, cry, everything is energy, and Abe on childhood issues

TIPS FOR TODAY:

# 1 – Lovely image and text….

I am like a seed beneath the soil, waiting for the signs of spring.

~ Rumi

# 2 – Good “advice” from Jeff Foster (www.lifewithoutacentre.com)

A GOOD CRY

When you are crying, friend,
Forget why you are crying,
And just let tears flow freely.

When you are laughing,
Forget the reason for laughter,
And laugh.

When you are angry,
Just for a moment,
Forget what ‘made’ you angry,
And honour – even celebrate – the raw, burning,
throbbing sensations in your body.
Feel your power!

Come closer.
Be present.
Honour what is alive in you.
Let powerful energies move without a story,
without blame, without judgement, without resistance.
(Yet allow resistance too, if that’s alive in you.)

Know yourself as life –
The unconditional space
for it all.

# 3 – Double dose of Rumi for today with this lovely image and text….Hey, you can’t go wrong with Rumi!

Love is the whole thing. We are only pieces. ~ Rumi
Image: Visoot Uthairam

# 4- A mind- and consciousness-expanding read…..

“The day science begins to study non-physical phenomena, it will make more progress in one decade than in all the previous centuries of its existence.”

http://dailyhealthdose.net/2016/10/06/nothing-is-solid-and-everything-is-energy/

# 5 – Today’s quote from Abe reminded me of how I’ve come to believe/realize that it’s usually easier and quicker to deal with what’s happening currently in our lives, rather than worrying about and getting side-tracked clearing things from our past…..Makes sense since this keeps us in the now, where our true point of power always lies.

You don’t have to go back and deal with childhood issues, because those childhood issues produced a vibration within you that you are still offering — which is producing today issues. You can shift your vibration a whole lot easier when you’re dealing with today issues, than trying to deal with childhood issues. It’s the same vibration. That vibration that was creating childhood issues, now it’s creating today issues. Deal with it in your now. “Which thought feels better? Which thought feels better? Which thought feels better?” –Abraham
