“Researchers conducting the Zen meditation study wanted to know if meditation practice changed people’s ability to recover from the intrusion of a word that unexpectedly appeared on the computer screen, which would strongly suggest that meditation improved recovery from the distractions induced by spontaneous thought as well. After the interruptions, the experienced meditator’s brains did indeed return faster to a relaxed state than non-meditator’s brains. Intensive meditation practice seems to reduce the elaborative thinking that normally occurs when we evaluate a thought and meditators are able to clear their minds of distractions more quickly than those who don’t meditate.

Obviously, this type of thought control could be useful in dealing with worries that arise in stressful testing situations. Worries about screwing up often cause flubbed performances because they use up valuable working-memory resources that could otherwise be devoted to test taking. By training the brain to discard negative thoughts, you can thwart the negative effects of stress. Discarding these thoughts is not the same as trying to ignore them or dismiss or suppress them, which uses up working-memory. When a worrisome thought arises, you acknowledge it, name it (as if actually identifying it and writing it down), but then let go of it. You don’t attach any more brainpower to it.”

“Feedforward,” vision, plant love, blessings, the election, Jeffrey Allan, and Abe


 

TIPS FOR TODAY:

 

# 1 – This is a fairly long read, but interesting, insightful article by Marshall Goldsmith about giving “feedforward,” instead of feedback. Something possibly every counselor, coach, teacher, business owner, parent….really just about anyone….should read….

Providing feedback has long been considered to be an essential skill for leaders. As they strive to achieve the goals of the organization, employees need to know how they are doing. They need to know if their performance is in line with what their leaders expect. They need to learn what they have done well and what they need to change. Traditionally, this information has been communicated in the form of “downward feedback” from leaders to their employees. Just as employees need feedback from leaders, leaders can benefit from feedback from their employees. Employees can provide useful input on the effectiveness of procedures and processes and as well as input to managers on their leadership effectiveness. This “upward feedback” has become increasingly common with the advent of 360 degree multi-rater assessments.

But there is a fundamental problem with all types of feedback: it focuses on the past, on what has already occurred—not on the infinite variety of opportunities that can happen in the future. As such, feedback can be limited and static, as opposed to expansive and dynamic.

Over the past several years, I have observed more than thirty thousand leaders as they participated in a fascinating experiential exercise. In the exercise, participants are each asked to play two roles. In one role, they are asked provide feedforward —that is, to give someone else suggestions for the future and help as much as they can. In the second role, they are asked to accept feedforward—that is, to listen to the suggestions for the future and learn as much as they can. The exercise typically lasts for 10-15 minutes, and the average participant has 6-7 dialogue sessions.

# 5 – Regardless of who you voted for in the presidential election or how you feel about the results, I think this message I got from James Tyman is something everyone can benefit from…….

Don’t get me wrong…this is not the outcome I was hoping from. But that’s not the point, is it? My happiness does not depend on anything happening out there but rather, within my own heart. That’s where the miracle unfolds, and if we’re willing to accept everything, no matter how far it is from what we wanted to happen, then happiness becomes a constant state. I AM Happy NO MATTER WHAT.

I spent the morning praying for Donald Trump, not cursing him. Yes, of course I was shocked and dismayed, but several days ago I asked thousands of people to pray for the “highest good” to be done in this election. Part of that involves me letting go of what I think needs to happen and trusting what actually is happening. It’s impossible for me to know what humanity needs to evolve into love, but I am willing to play my role NO MATTER WHAT. That’s the key – to commit to love regardless of the direction we seem to be heading.

I invite you to join me in this brave new life. A friend of mine used to say: “Ask for what you want, accept what you get, and work on the difference.” I did not vote for Donald Trump, but that doesn’t mean I have to fall into despair. You are needed more than ever now! If you feel sad or disheartened, that’s okay, but do what you have to do to move through those feelings back into love. # 2 – I love some of the articles at Moon Circles about astrological events and I especially like this one about the Full Moon Sat night/Sun morning (depending on where you live), not only because it gives insight into certain things going on right now in the outer world, but also focuses on the emotion/energy of anger….something that is often under-appreciated, misunderstood, misused and/or repressed/subjugated. All the anger and viciousness coming out in the political campaign, in the opponents, their followers and the American people in general (myself included) is a great example of what happens when anger has been repressed, denied or gone unrecognized for yrs and then comes spewing out in all directions……

Evolution Made Easier?


 

This is a strange, strained and interesting time on planet Earth. Lots going on that can seem challenging, scary, confusing,  and more, depending on where your attention is placed. Many are feeling great sadness about certain local and world events; some are experiencing volatility in work or personal relationships. Others are chafing against a sense being constrained and confined, yet are apprehensive and uncertain of how to break free.

In the last week or so I have come across several things that have not only helped me have a better understanding of why certain things are happening right now, but also given me some insight into how to make better use of the forces at play. I’ve included several of them in this post. Hopefully for many of you reading this, they will provide some useful “aha’s” and evolutionary support….. 

 

# 1 – This first item is from The Hathors by way of a newsletter from Tom Kenyon. It really helped give me a better overview of what’s happening energetically, and the re-potting analogy seemed to hit the nail on the head and perfectly explain why I’ve been feeling the way I have….

The Aetherium

Background

From our perspective the destabilization of your world, which we mentioned in our last planetary message, is accelerating at an ever-faster rate. This is producing immense stress upon your biological, mental and emotional realities.

What we wish to offer in this message is a practical tool to bring your body/mind complex into a greater state of coherency in the midst of the ever-increasing chaos around you.

The shock waves of change that many of you are experiencing can be likened to the re-potting of a plant that has become root-bound. For many of you, your psychological and biological roots to your current perceived reality are bound up. With some exceptions most humans are finding the current transition that the world is passing through most difficult to contend with.

Much of what you might have believed to be true is being revealed as lies. Many of the institutions you counted upon to protect you are increasingly being unveiled as insidious. Interpersonal relationships are strained due to the simple fact that so many of you are stressed by the complex changes around you, changes that you seemingly have no control over. This produces destructive patterns of response within your biology, meaning how your body is responding to the stressors around you, including your mental and emotional faculties.

Returning to our metaphor of the root-bound plant, all sentient beings have psychic roots that connect them to their perceived reality. When a plant becomes too root-bound it is unable to flourish. Yet the paradox here is that when you place a root-bound plant into a larger container, with more space to grow, the plant undergoes a period of shock and disorientation. It takes awhile for the plant to recognize that there is more space to spread out its roots. While our comment may seem implausible to some of you, you are actually in the midst of greater opportunities for accelerated growth due to the fact that the multi-dimensional space you are in is expanding, i.e. your pot is getting bigger. And yet your visceral experience may be that you are feeling more confined than ever.

Our position regarding this odd paradox is that human beings—with some exceptions—tend to be slow in recognizing new spaces for growth.  They get used to being root-bound and confined by their perceived reality. There is an innate laziness in human nature when it comes to the task of stepping into a new reality that is greater than has been perceived before. If you are one of the few humans who is bold in the face of new realities, we salute you. But for most humans, there is a deep reticence in allowing their own psychic roots to expand beyond perceived realities into new vistas.

One of the great challenges in this period of global transition is that your difficulties are not just mental and emotional, they are physical in nature as well. By this we mean your physiology and neurology are deeply challenged by the rapid changes in your perceived reality.

The Aetherium

The Aetherium is a sound tool for you to address these issues head-on. The sound codes that comprise this sound meditation come directly from the higher realms of light. They are emanations from the tenth, eleventh and twelfth dimensions of reality in a realm we call The Aethos. This vibratory field of light is self-aware as well as highly intelligent and resides in a state of consciousness you would call non-duality. For our purposes, we will simply address practical suggestions for how to use this unique sound pattern.

When you listen to The Aetherium you will hear a continuous drone-sound in the background. This is The Aethos sound meditation that we presented in 2012. There may be some days when you are so stressed, depleted and exhausted that you are unable to hold a mental focus. At these times simply listen to the sounds. When your mind wanders, simply bring your relaxed focus back to the music. There is nothing else to do in this form of listening.

Society will struggle for liberation from tradition or authoritarian rule, which will include religious freedom and the rights of refugees and women.
The biggest struggle will be for the most basic of human rights as a result of subverted religious fundamentalism
