Eckhart Tolle & Barnet Bain, feeling good, lucky dog, expecting/deserving, astrology update, and Healthy Money Summit



# 1 – There’s an interesting interview with Eckhart Tolle and Barnet Bain featured in a recent issue of Om Magazine. Here’s what Bain had to say when asked what mindfulness meant to him…. Barnet Bain:

Mindfulness is developing an awareness of the thoughts that move through and feelings that we move through without getting drawn into the meanings or being drawn into taking action or getting sucked into the story… and then like house guests, eventually they all leave. One thing that mindfulness practice does is it allows us to pay attention to all the thoughts and all the feelings that wander through our awareness and we become more attuned to being a container for those things and less identified with them.

So now we begin to have a relationship with all our structured imaginings and in doing so, life begins to take on, from my perspective, a more enchanted, more dreamy experience. What is possible for us begins to expand because we are not so rigidly contained by the way that our thoughts and imaginations have been structured. Mindfulness has never been more important considering how quickly the events of the world move in such an accelerated, such a frantic time. We are battered around like a cat with a toy. Our attention goes from here, to the next thing, to the next thing and we’re triggered from one response of fear, to another one of connection, to the threat of loss. It’s just constantly, constantly in play in ways that 15, 20, 30 years ago didn’t exist because things moved at such a different cadence. And so it is more critical than ever if you believe, as we do that our experience of reality is the result of the magical alchemy of the creation of our thoughts, our beliefs, our decisions, our attitudes, our feelings.

All of these are, for the most part, unconscious. Mindfulness allows us to watch these thoughts and choices and decisions without being triggered and having to take action and give meaning. And so suddenly we are able to see beyond the waterline to see the iceberg. We are seeing with x-ray glasses, the ability to see what is below the surface of the way we do life.

Holding in negative emotion, “what is,” the meaning of life, Whole Foods humor, lunar eclipse, and Abraham


# 1 – Something to consider….

# 2 – From Dr. Robert Anthony….

The only time we suffer is when we believe a thought that argues
with “what is”. When the mind is perfectly clear, “what is” is what
we accept in this moment.

In the words of Byron Katie, “If you want your reality to be different
than ‘what is’ then you might as well try to teach your cat to bark.
You can try and try and in the end the cat will look up at you and
say ‘Meow’. Wanting your reality to be different than what it is in this
moment, is just as hopeless.  You can spend the rest of your life trying
to teach your cat to bark.”

And yet if you pay attention, you’ll notice that you think thoughts
like this all the time. Whenever the word ‘should’ shows up, that’s
what is going on. As in “I should be thinner, my friend should be
less sensitive, my spouse should be more attentive.” – You get the idea…

These thoughts are ways of wanting reality to be different than it
is. Here is my point – all the stress you feel in your life at this
moment is caused by arguing with “what is”.

People say to me, “But if I simply accept reality then I will
become passive and nothing will change.  I answer them with this
question. Which of these statements make more sense? “I wish I
hadn’t lost all that money.” or “What can I do now to create more income?”

Accepting “what is” doesn’t mean you settle for the way things are, it
just means you give up all the resistance and inner struggle by wishing
it were different.

When undesirable things happen, it can be helpful not to let go and NOT
mentally argue with them. We know this, and the only reason we continue
doing it is because it is a HABITUAL PATTERN.

# 4 – An entertaining read, especially for anyone who has ever been disenchanted with Whole Foods or someone saying namaste…..

# 5 – Today is a power-filled lunar eclipse and the trigger for a lot of other potent astrological happenings. Here’s an update from Henry Selzter at….

Friday’s Aries Full Moon is also an eclipse, although we cannot necessarily see it. This means that this Full Moon is a stronger and more intense lunation, so that the symbolism of its planetary configurations will last for the next six months or so into the future. And that very future is also far from certain, given the predominance of the outer planet alignments over this same period of time. Uranus and Pluto, already less than one degree away from the next installment of their iconic square with each other, become exactly square on November 1st, and then again on April 21st of 2014. While these fourth and fifth passes are not the final pair, they are perhaps the most intense. In the meantime, the lunations of this climactic end-of-year period, including the Last Quarter Moon of Christmas Day, December 25, feature an exacerbation of Uranus and Pluto in their revolutionary square alignment. We are in for a season of massive change, both individually and as a society, and no way around it.

When you realize that by working to achieve your feeling of Well-being, it is then impossible for you to ever rendezvous with anything other than Well-being — that is the only place that freedom will ever be.—Abraham

This is such a great article from The Huffington Post…at least in my opinion…that I didn’t just want to post a link to it  in hope that people may check it out…..

How to Get Flat Abs, Have Amazing Sex and Rule the World in 8 Easy Steps

The covers of most men’s and women’s magazines have similar headlines: “Get Great Abs” and “Have Amazing Sex.”

From the looks of it, these two issues have been recycled over and over (with some other stereotypically gender-relevant articles thrown in) on every Men’s Health, Maxim,Cosmopolitan and Glamour cover since the dawn of time. In fact, I’d bet that if we could get a better translation of cave drawings, they would read something like “Grok get flat belly. Make girl Grok moan with joy.”

And we keep buying them. We keep buying this lie that these things will make us happy. I’ve had washboard abs (past tense) and I’ve had some pretty phenomenal sex. Neither one made me a better person. Neither one completed me or made my life more fulfilling.

We chase this idea of “I will be happy when… “

I will be happy when I have a new car. I will be happy when I get married. I will be happy when I get a better job. I will be happy when I lose five pounds. What if instead we choose to be happy — right now?

If you can read this, your life is pretty awesome.

Setting aside our first-world problems and pettiness, if you are online reading this, you have both electricity and WiFi or access to them. Odds are you are in a shelter of some sort, or on a smart phone (and then kudos to you for reading this on the go). Life might bump and bruise us, it may not always go the way we plan and I know I get frustrated with mine, but here’s the thing: You are alive.

Because you are alive, everything is possible. So about those eight tips…

1. Stop believing your bullshit.

All that stuff you tell yourself about how you are a commitment phobe or a coward or lazy or not creative or unlucky? Stop it. It’s bullshit, and deep down you know it. We are all insecure 14 year olds at heart. We’re all scared. We all have dreams inside of us that we’ve tucked away because somewhere along the line we tacked on those ideas about who we are that buried that essential brilliant, childlike sense of wonder. The more we stick to these scripts about who we are, the longer we live a fraction of the life we could be living. Let it go. Be who you are beneath the bullshit.

2. Be happy now.

Not because The Secret says so. Not because of some shiny happy Oprah crap. But because we can choose to appreciate what is in our lives instead of being angry or regretful about what we lack. It’s a small, significant shift in perspective. It’s easier to look at what’s wrong or missing in our lives and believe that is the big picture — but it isn’t. We can choose to let the beautiful parts set the tone.

3. Look at the stars.

It won’t fix the economy. It won’t stop wars. It won’t give you flat abs, or better sex or even help you figure out your relationship and what you want to do with your life. But it’s important. It helps you remember that you and your problems are both infinitesimally small and conversely, that you are a piece of an amazing and vast universe. I do it daily — it helps.

4. Let people in.

Truly. Tell people that you trust when you need help, or you’re depressed — or you’re happy and you want to share it with them. Acknowledge that you care about them and let yourself feel it. Instead of doing that other thing we sometimes do, which is to play it cool and pretend we only care as much as the other person has admitted to caring, and only open up half way. Go all in — it’s worth it.

5. Stop with the crazy making.

I got to a friend’s doorstep the other day, slightly breathless and nearly in tears after getting a little lost, physically and existentially. She asked what was wrong and I started to explain and then stopped myself and admitted, “I’m being stupid and have decided to invent lots of problems in my head.” Life is full of obstacles; we don’t need to create extra ones. A great corollary to this one is from The Four Agreements, by Don Miguel Ruiz: Don’t take things personally. Most of the time, other people’s choices and attitudes have absolutely nothing to do with you. Unless you’ve been behaving like a jerk, in which case…

6. Learn to apologize.

Not the ridiculous, self-deprecating apologizing for who you are and for existing that some people seem to do (what’s up with that, anyway?). The ability to sincerely apologize — without ever interjecting the word “but” — is an essential skill for living around other human beings. If you are going to be around other people, eventually you will need to apologize. It’s an important practice.

7. Practice gratitude.

Practice it out loud to the people around you. Practice it silently when you bless your food. Practice it often. Gratitude is not a first world only virtue. I saw a photo recently, of a girl in abject poverty, surrounded by filth and destruction. Her face was completely lit up with joy and gratitude as she played with a hula hoop she’d been given. Gratitude is what makes what we have enough. Gratitude is the most basic way to connect with that sense of being an integral part of the vastness of the universe; as I mentioned with looking up at the stars, it’s that sense of wonder and humility, contrasted with celebrating our connection to all of life.

8. Be kind.

Kurt Vonnegut said it best (though admittedly, and somewhat ashamedly — I am not a Vonnegut fan): “There’s only one rule that I know of, babies — ‘God damn it, you’ve got to be kind.'”

Kindness costs us nothing and pays exponential dividends. I can’t save the whole world. I can’t bring peace to Syria. I can’t fix the environment or the health care system, and from the looks of it, I may end up burning my dinner.

But I can be kind.

If the biggest thing we do in life is to extend love and kindness to even one other human being, we have changed the world for the better.

That’s a hell of a lot more important than flat abs in my book.

Feeling good, do-overs, happiness, Global Oneness Day, and make a difference


# 1 – Often I end one of my posts with a quote from Abraham, but this seemed too good to wait until then. Boy, think how life would/could be different if we followed this advice….

No matter what the issue is, don’t try to justify why you don’t feel good. And don’t try to justify why you should feel differently. Don’t try to blame whatever it is you think the reason is that’s keeping you from feeling good. All of that is wasted effort. Just try to feel better right now.—Abraham

I guess my two cents worth on this would be that this is not, at least in my opinion, about trying to deny or suppress however you’re feeling in the moment….being inauthentic is never a good idea. And it’s not about judging a certain feeling/emotion as negative or bad. It’s just recognizing that however/whatever you’re feeling is letting you know you’ve somehow disconnected from who and what you truly are, and then looking for a feeling that helps re-establish that connection with Self.
