Last Quarter Moon in Libra and Sun Conjunct Pluto

From tonight (Monday)’s Libra Last Quarter Moon until next Tuesday’s Capricorn New Moon we have again entered the Balsamic phase of the cycle, where we are given more opportunities for release and clearing toward a vibrant New Year. Last night the Sun and Pluto were conjunct, adding their dynamic to the next few days.

The Sun Pluto aspect offers us profound, body-level insight into the transformative processes that have been occurring under the surface of our rapidly changing lives. With the Last Quarter Moon in Libra there is a focus on relationships–experiencing and letting go of old, imbalanced habits of belief, cellular memory, and emotion in our connection to Other (yes, I know this comes up a lot, right? This is really the leading-edge work of our time, in my humble opinion!)

What a perfect moment–at the end of the holidays–to gain clarity of awareness old family /relationship patterns, so that we can shed generations-old layers of accumulated crap–and dive into the New Year feeling clear, refreshed, and renewed. This year I chose not to go to Missouri to spend Christmas with my very large and loving family but instead to stay in New Mexico to recharge my battery and enjoy days off with my partner, friends, and in the mountains.

I have felt tremendous gratitude for the simplicity of the last week, the wonderful “excuse” to take a break from my busy life. Yet when I called home Christmas Eve I experienced an old, very familiar fear–that if I allow myself to fully be present in my life away from family, I will lose my core connection to my tribe. I felt physically panicked, and recognized an instinctual, survival-based fear triggered within me.

I wondered how much of my vitality and passion are tied up in fear of abandoning and being abandoned. I have begun to imagine how it feels to appreciate each opportunity for connection wherever I am–whether I have 5 minutes on the phone with my sister, an afternoon with my partner and his boys, time alone on my meditation cushion, connecting to Spirit, within and without.

I release old habitual fears and in its place welcome trust and an open heart. I trust that I am exactly where I need to be. I trust that my family will be fine in my absence, and that my next visit will renew connections in heart-full, enduring ways.

Mars Square Saturn

The Sacred Masculine (Mars), currently in its Leo cycle, has been undergoing a profound initiation in the past few weeks–entering the Underworld, joining up with Pluto, and now Saturn. Though the Sacred Masculine is experienced by all of us–men and women alike–I’ve been noticing patterns in the lives of men around me. During these times of such great change and restructuring, men face very specific challenges-and tremendous opportunities for healing.

From childhood boys are taught that it is good to be strong, capable, fearless, invulnerable. Yet in times of great change, the qualities of adaptability, openness, ability to acknowledge weaknesses, capacity for healing connections–these are the approaches that work. A supportive circle of friends and loved ones–not just a rigid nuclear unit–create much needed resilience and safe places to seek support outside of just one primary (often overburdened) relationship.

I have noticed that at this time, when men take two common approaches to challenges in their lives–struggling against or trying to “fix” all that is shifting around them OR checking out because they feel helpless and scared and afraid to change–they experience tremendous resistance from partners, from family–and most of all, from life itself.

Men who are opening up and seeking support from other men, who are acknowledging that they too have limits and vulnerabilities–who are willing to be in the flow of change–are experiencing tremendous healing and awakening to greater joy and aliveness than they had thought possible. And this is a beautiful thing, because this world needs men who are in touch with their core aliveness, authentic strength and vulnerability.

Mercury Stations Direct

Early Thursday morning (oh glorious day!) Mercury stations direct. The days surrounding a Mercury direct station tend to feel suspended, and intensely dreamy. It’s a great time to really assess the mind-blowing experiences we’ve had over the past few weeks, and where our comfortable ideas and paradigms have been re-oriented. What has burst open our minds in the past few weeks? What has our intuition opened up in and for us?

It will take a few days for our world to settle back into something resembling “normal”–i.e., fewer communication issues and technical difficulties. So  we do well to take advantage of a few more days of “time out of time” to tune into our inner soulfulness, and be grounded in our bodies and the present moment–before shifting back into “go mode.”

Venus Conjunct Moon at 2nd Gate (6th Chakra)

With our minds freshly opened to the intuitive realm over the past few weeks of the Mercury Retrograde cycle, on Thursday we are now invited to take it to the next level–as the Scorpio Goddess (Venus) passes through the 2nd Gate on her long descent into the Underworld. This can be understood as representing the 6th Chakra, where she releases all that stands in the way of full access to her inner voice, her intuition.  This is represented by the Moon Venus conjunction that takes place at 6:11 am MST Thursday morning–when the waning crescent Moon can be seen near Venus in the early morning sky.

Do we design our lives in such a way that we have the opportunity to hear the “still small voice” of our intuition? For myself, I have noticed that too much time in front of the computer, too little time in nature, too many deadlines on top of each other, a habit of going to bed late–and thus waking too late for spiritual practice–all these things cloud my capacity to hear my inner voice. I am always amazed by how differently I feel when I take just 10 minutes for stillness in the morning. It can be the difference between experiencing the flow of my life, and waking at 4:00 in the morning to a sensation in the pit of my stomach that something is off kilter.

New Years Liberation and Celebration

So this New Years, in the midst of our most exuberant celebrations, we can envision burning off, happily throwing aside–all the fears that no longer serve us, all the habits that have needlessly trapped us, the ancestral burdens that have cramped our freedom-loving spirits-even as we welcome this new year of growth, renewal, love and light for ourselves, our loved ones, our human family, and beautiful Mama Earth.

#2 – Qi Gong master and energy healer Michael Mohoric is offering another one of his free distance healing sessions this coming Sunday. What a great way to start off the new year! The main healing session is 1/2 at 7pm PST (10pm EST). Details from Michael follow…

You can join this free distant energy healing session by using your intention to be included. If you wish to join, just close your eyes for a minute when you read this and mentally say that you intend to join the session and want to be included. That is all you have to do to connect with the energy and you don’t have to do anything else. Healing energy can begin to flow to you once you do this as many people who have done this before have reported. There will be unscheduled daily energy adjustments leading up to the main session and you can receive a lot of healing energy before the main session on Jan. 2.

You can include other people by following the instructions later in this newsletter. For those in other countries you can search for a World Time Clock to convert the time; Use Los Angeles as the originating city. You can also use this to convert other US cities.

For those who want to know more about this work you can read my website . I was the past Secretary of the International Tibetan Qigong Association and found I had a gift for distant energy healing after recovering from a serious spinal cord injury.

#3 – And here’s a short, but “pith-y,” quote from Abraham…

“We didn’t say, when you feel good you are allowing good, and when you feel bad you are allowing bad (although it may translate into your experience in that way). There is only a Source of Well-being–which you are allowing or not.”— Abraham

Holiday challenge, lead-in to 1/1/11 world meditation, and Abraham

Well, I hope everyone had an inspired and inspiring day yesterday, regardless of your religious beliefs. I myself was, and am, snowed in at a mountaintop home where I have the dog and cat I’m pet-sitting to keep me company. Despite the weather and being “stuck” here, it turned out to be one of the most enjoyable Christmases in years. And the snowfall was absolutely magical–yesterday there was no wind at all and the snow fell so quietly and brought such a sense of Stillness to the surroundings it was truly awe-inspiring.

Anyway, on with…

#1 – Here’s a great idea and challenge from a newsletter I received from Ken Page and his partner Nancy

*A Holiday Challenge from Nancy*
This season is my favorite for really one reason: kindness and generosity. People generally act more loving, their attitudes are kinder and there is a true sense of giving to others. The anticipation and spirit of Christmas brings joy to the hearts of so many people, allowing them to feel blessed just to be alive.

Then the New Year begins and old patterns emerge. The spirit of this season is forgotten. So I offer a challenge to any of you brave and courageous enough to take it on:

Hold within your heart a space for kindness, gentleness and compassionate acceptance. Pick one day in January (keep it secret to yourself). Think of that day as your day of blessings. Really get into the spirit of Christmas as that day approaches. Be kind, gentle, loving, giving and compassionate with others – just as you do at Christmas time. Do the same for each month, keeping the same date you chose for January.

Now – if each one of us chooses a different date of the month, and we each carry forward the spirit of blessings, compassion and joy – each of us would find ourselves in a much happier world. It won’t really be hard because we will have Christmas one day each month and the feelings and spirit for many days before and after. Everyone else has a different day for the same reason – and all of us benefit.

Thanks for reading. We wish you a joy and peace-filled Holiday season. Do something you love to do – just for yourself.

Ken and Nancy

#2 – In preparation for the very special world meditation planned for 1/1/11, World Puja gave a presentation the other day that is now available for replay. Here is the link (and be sure to sign up for the meditation, if you haven’t done so already–see info in a previous post):

#3 – And to close, here are some great words of wisdom from Abraham…
“It is not attention to lack of wellness that makes you sick. It is attention to the lack of many things… Chronic attention to unwanted things holds you in a place of disallowing your physical well-being, as well as disallowing the solutions to other things you are focused upon. If you would focus your attention upon the experience of physical well-being as much as you focus upon the absence of it, not only would your recovery come quickly, but maintaining your physical well-being and balance would also be easy.”— Abraham

Considering the impact of Mercury retrograde and the recent lunar eclipse (see previous posts) and Solstice–all emphasizing this being a time for reflection–I thought these words and insights from a key lesson by Guy Finley would make great food for thought…

Reclaim the Greatness From Which You are Born

by Guy Finley

Key Lesson: If you want to measure the degree to which some thought or feeling is harmful to the development of your soul, just see the extent to which its presence separates you from the possibility of remembering the Divine.

Strengthen Your Connection to the Timeless Life

You’ll never know how forgetful of your self you are until you make the smallest effort to be self-remembering. But in the same measure you make the effort to see that self-forgetfulness is overtaking your life — and that it is the real cause of your pain — comes a kind of new and special spiritual memory, a certain Presence that little by little grows in you as a powerful new awareness. As you work to place the Divine before all else in your life, it begins to go before you, not only keeping you from forgetting yourself, but helping you to realize, increasingly, your connection to the celestial, timeless Life.

Start this wonderful, positive, upward spiral by using ceaseless prayer to go within yourself. You’ll quickly discover that this wish to go in is the same as asking to go up! Following are three key ideas to help strengthen your understanding of the need to remember this new kind of inner work:

An unattended mind is the breeding ground of self-defeat.

If you’re not present in your own life, working moment to moment to remember something Timeless, you will find and then lose yourself in every thought or event that floats by. Self-defeat is the unconscious act of being identified with and investing your self in what must disappear… and then a sense of loss, sorrow, or suffering rushes in to fill the temporary gap. Every moment that you can, come wide awake! Do it right now!

Conscious efforts are always rewarded with increased consciousness.

We live within a totally responsive universe, always responding with more than we have asked for. And when you begin to ask for real things in life, you get more than you can possibly know you’re asking for. To increase your consciousness is the same as learning to ask for something more, and to learn to ask for more is to receive more than you could ever imagine.

Wasted energies are the same as lost opportunities.

When you stop working to grow, you begin dying. Beginning today, choose to use your life for those true purposes that withstand the test of time instead of allowing your life to be used up serving only one temporary purpose after another.

Whenever you can remember yourself in whatever you may be doing, bring yourself back into the awareness of the present moment and into that secret Permanence that dwells therein. Use every waking moment — when you’re eating, while you’re walking, or just waiting. If you’re at work, you have to do your assigned tasks, but when you take a break, return to that higher awareness that cannot disappear into the river any more than the ocean can be engulfed by one of its own waves. In this state of awareness, the river of time and all upon it runs by you, through you, instead of carrying you away. In its waves and ripples you can see your own thoughts float by with no sense of loss. This is the essence of spiritual detachment. You choose to stay with what is Timeless by refusing to lose yourself in the world of thought and time.

Further insight into the lunar eclipse!

Everyone seems to be interested in the lunar eclipse. And why not?! It’s a very special occurrance. So here’s more insight and information about this cosmic happening that adds to what was given in my previous post (be sure to check it out). This article is by renowned Santa Cruz astrologer  Henry Seltzer and taken from the current Astrograph newsletter…

Solstice Lunar Eclipse
Late Monday Night, December 20th, 2011

The Solstice time has come round again and as we prepare for another New Year we must take the old one into account as well. That is the message of the very important holiday season this year as we move closer yet to the tempestuous teens of this dawning 21st century. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse taking place in the early hours of Tuesday the 21st represents a wonderful opportunity to make a vital assessment of where the energy of this next year will take us and how we plan to respond.

In an extremely rare occurrence, the Winter Solstice happens on the afternoon of the same day, the 21st. The solstice is always a potent time for new beginnings because the shortest day of the year has arrived and this means in entirely simplistic and yet ultimately profound terms that the light is returning. This solstice is made even more powerful by the earlier Lunar Eclipse which is designed to allow you to look backward as well as forward as you contemplate a different future for yourself that yet does not break completely with your past. The eclipse is happening in the last degrees of Sagittarius and Gemini, and makes a T-square to Jupiter and Uranus, conjunct in Pisces. Although the energy of these latter planetary archetypes is all about going forward, radiant with new vision for a better future, leaving the past completely behind, that energy is moderated by the eclipse itself. This is because it seeks to connect us to who we are based upon who we have always been, a kind of looking back. Taking place in the last degrees of the signs before the Cardinal signs of Capricorn and Cancer, which are symbolized in the Solstice, it makes the point that where we have been is as important as where we are going. This Full Moon energy therefore represents a flowering of all that we have been and learned in our life cycle up to now. We can be more than we would ever have imagined if we can take a measured stance on what we truly desire in our heart of hearts to actually accomplish. This very potent and very revealing solstice time is holy, and if we so treat it, we will see the rewards begin to manifest for us after the New Year.

The eclipse degrees in late Gemini and Sagittarius have the Sabian symbols of “Bathing Beauties on Parade” and “The Pope” – with all the pomp and splendor these images convey, and for all their connection to collective values. We can either fall back into show and surface glitter or we can make the effort to be a focal point for the society around us to regain some semblance of pride and wisdom. It is important to note that Mercury is retrograde right now, and moving backward into Sagittarius, still in conjunction with the eclipse degree and square to Uranus. It will not re-enter Capricorn until January and will not regain its lost Zodiacal longitude until January 15th – so we have two weeks into the New Year to mull over our potential choices before taking more deliberate action.

ANOTHER PICK FOR TODAY… is this quote from How God Answers the Soul, by Mechthild of Magdeburg. I thought it would be good to include here because the lunar eclipse and Solstice are all about reviewing where you have been and where you are going, and I think these words would be great to reflect on when doing that personal review…

It is my nature that makes me love you often,
For I am love itself.

It is my longing that makes me love you intensely,
For I yearn to be loved from the heart.

It is my eternity that makes me love you long,
For I have no end.

Insight into the lunar eclipse and Solstice

I just received this message from shamanic astrologer Tami Brunk about the upcoming lunar eclipse and Solstice. I thought you might enjoy reading what she had to say, as well…..

Dear Friends,

As is often the case near a full Moon I tossed and turned all night last night. As has been the case for several days now, my mind has truly felt like a tyrant–I have been besieged each night by a cacophony of thoughts, and very little respite. This morning in my meditations, to honor the Super New Moon of tonight’s eclipse, I ceremonially released my addiction to my mind and its machinations. I welcomed–like the new Solstice dawn, a new relationship to the world around me. I am imagining how it feels to move through my day with gratitude, presence, and great joy. To accept fully my life as it is, to connect in an intimate and kind manner with the world surrounding me–the trees the birds, my neighbor, my too-busy life, the Moon.

I invite you to create your own ceremony of release and welcoming–these next days are a VERY potent time to do it. And regardless of whether or not you can stay up late enough to watch the eclipse, please remember that you can observe–at sunrise and sunset tomorrow–the incredible visible power of the solar/lunar opposition–as the Sun rises, the Moon sets. As the Sun sets, the Moon rises. Such is the magic of our world.

I hope your visits with family and loved ones, and celebration of rebirth and ancient celebration of the return of the Son–and Sun–brings you unbounded joy and blessings.

Much love, Tami

Tonight’s Total Lunar Eclipse promises to be a spectacular event, and will be visible across North and South America, Africa, and Europe even for city dwellers–in areas with clear skies. It occurs in the midst of the Ursid meteor showers, and just prior to the Winter Solstice. Whether you stay up to watch or simply say a prayer or meditate before sleeping then rise to greet the solstice Sun–it can be such a beautiful experience to participate in this solstice. Please also remember that you can engage with the solstice Sun each morning for the next few days, and the Super Full Moon energy of the eclipse can be experienced (and ceremonially worked with) through the next few days. The climax of tonight’s total lunar eclipse is at 1:13 MST (3:13 am EST).

The visible movement of the Earth’s shadow over the face of the Moon will last for about 3 hours–beginning at about 11:33 and ending at about 3:01 am. The Moon is darkened, into a fiery red, and as my teachers explain it, we can understand this as the opportunity to see every phase of the Moon within a 3 hour window-where it usually takes a month for this cycle to occur. The eclipse occurs about 15 hours prior to the exact moment of the Winter Solstice Tuesday the 21st at 4:48 pm MST. This is the first total lunar eclipse in 3 years, and it will be another 19 years before we experience another total lunar eclipse so close to the winter solstice.

The significance of this lunar eclipse is beyond our full understanding–but I feel it has a great deal to do with a blowout, or endpoint of society’s over-reliance on the rational, cerebral, masculine approach to life–and an opening to greater intuitive guidance, feminine consciousness, and humanity coming into greater alignment with the heartbeat of the Universe. The peak of the eclipse occurs at 29 degrees Gemini, the degree of mastery for Gemini training. It occurs just as Mercury is in the “Underworld” completing its latest 3 month cycle in Capricorn, and transforming into a new version of itself. The Moon is also at this time conjunct the South Node–which represents the areas of past mastery (and the collective shadow) of humanity.

I can imagine no greater opportunity to release, at an individual and collective level our addiction to “knowing it all”–to analyzing, and probing, and trying to manage Gaia (and our own indigenous souls!) without regard for her (or our) innate spiritual essence and aliveness. Mercury retrograde in Capricorn suggests we must release our attachment to the old rules; the rational understanding of how things “should work.” Venus at her brightest in the morning sky in the sign of Scorpio, the Goddess of intuitive and organic knowing adds to this dynamic.

The Sun at the moment of the eclipse is in Sagittarius, conjunct the North Node–or humanity’s point of greatest evolutionary growth. Over the next few days Mercury follows the Sun (last week) in squaring Jupiter, then Uranus–also suggesting we break free of the tyranny of our minds (liberating Uranus) while embracing a higher, more intuitive and inclusive vision (Sagittarius, Jupiter and Uranus). I feel this eclipse has a great deal to do with our growing capacity to integrate opposites and so embrace the dual nature of our fertile world. Modern humans have developed a culture of violence, I believe, because we are at war with the fundamental nature of the Earth experience–its duality and life death cycles.

As my teacher points out in this article, this year’s extraordinary series of Full and New Moons near the Solstice and Equinox points represents a synchronization of the two greatest symbols of duality on our planet–the Sun and the Moon. The Sabian Symbol for 29 Gemini is: The First Mockingbird of Spring. As astrologer Dane Rudhyar, articulated it–this is the creative exuberance of the human soul in response to basic life experiences. He points out that the mockingbird absorbs a diversity of sounds from its environment and weaves them together into intricate and marvelous songs.

May we all approach the new dawn after tonight–the longest night of the year-with the mockingbird’s creative exuberance, as we learn to venerate and make beautiful the chaotic chords that surround us in this rapidly changing, dying and re-birthing world–creating new songs, new visions, new life from the compost of humanity’s past.

Astrology update, good news about sugar, and inspiration from Michael Beckwith

#1 – Here’s the latest astrological update from shamanic astrologer Tami Brunk on the cosmic alignments taking place this week. I really enjoyed her perspectives and insight and thought you might, as well…

Capricorn Lineup
This week begins with an extraordinary series of aspects-Mercury (retrograde), Mars, and Pluto all meeting up near 4’40 Capricorn within just 2 degrees of the North Node. These aspects resonate most strongly through Wednesday, but influence our entire week.

The Mars and Pluto dynamic can be understood as a useful spark and impetus, preparing us for the upcoming total lunar eclipse and winter solstice next week. Mars represents the physical, active and dynamic force on our planet. When it is paired with the primal life force energy of Pluto it can be seen as a dramatic catharsis, and potential battle of some kind.

Do we know how to engage with our own inner power, our primal sources of energy, and our inner conflicts? Many of us fear intensity, power, instinctual action and conflict–whether we see it outside of ourselves or feel it stirring within. Our modern culture madly promotes violence for the consumption of the masses–in sports, film, video games. Yet we are too seldom provided with support to cultivate the warrior or athlete within–to consciously engage with and raise our primal energy–and learn to channel it skillfully.

We fear tapping into our inner rage, passion, fire-because we are afraid we will harm ourselves, or others. Yet too often our fear causes us to shut down emotionally, physically, spiritually–to only half live, while occasionally exploding in ways that DO harm ourselves or others, and re-enforce our belief that we are dangerous creatures inside.

We can find creative, empowering, and positive channels for our inner fire–dance, martial arts, tantra, kundalini yoga, sports–and many of the best visual artists, writers, and musicians seem to be ignited by a creatively conflicted, physically aggressive muse.

On the collective level this aspect can heat up conflicts between nations and groups. It can point to the continued, accelerated disruption of societal institutions-economies, governments, corporations. Wikileaks is a prime example of where Mercury fits in–as a cyber-battle rages between the media revolutionaries and powers that be.

With the North Node involved, we can consider that this disruption and volatility is all moving humanity toward its destiny–is assisting in the evolutionary process. And with Mercury also involved, and retrograde, to the degree that we can approach our current situation from an intuitive and open-minded perspective (releasing our need for the world to operate according to our standards of logic and rationale) we are provided with profound insight into the meaning behind inner and outer change and disruption–and best actions to take in response.

Sun square Jupiter and Uranus

The second major happening this week is the Sun square to Jupiter (Thursday) and Uranus (Saturday). This speaks as well to the revolutionary impulse present in such phenomena as wiki-leaks. While Mars and Pluto ask that we embody and experience the personal dimension of conflict and tension as agents of transformation and creation–we are at the same time invited to expand our vision and perspective to consider the whole-our entire human family, and the future of our planet.

Sun aspects to Jupiter and Uranus truly speak to an illumination by Great Mystery of the innovative, progressive inspiration within humanity toward conscious evolution and growth. Without a doubt, we are going through a maturation process (Mars/Mercury/Pluto/North Node in Capricorn)–and its attendant growing pains. Yet with Uranus and Jupiter activated, we get to experience the more expansive elements of this maturation. It is a very positive, empowered time for us to tune into and activate our highest vision for the world we wish to help create as our old world is dismantled.

#2 – Sugar may be bad for you to eat, but did you know it has great powers, along with honey, when it comes to healing cuts, wounds, infections and burns?! And it leaves minimal or no scarring. I recently came across 2 articles on the subject and was so impressed that I’m now featuring them on my website.

#3 – Here’s an excerpt from an article about the evolutionary edge of the Law of Attraction by Michael Beckwith…

Why is it that just by walking into a room some people light up the atmosphere with their presence? Why, when certain individuals speak, do their listeners become spellbound, while someone talking about the same subject is met with yawns? What I’m describing are those individuals whose magnetism is so potent they effortlessly make a dynamic impact.   No form of social networking, marketing, or résumé reveals more about us than the vibratory frequency that radiates from our being.

Did you know that you have a magnetic field that draws to you the people, experiences and things that mirror the vibratory equivalent of your thoughts, perceptions, opinions, beliefs, insights-in short, your overall state of consciousness? Consciousness determines most of what unfolds in our life.  How we interpret, integrate and respond to that evolutionary process determines the rest. We are all-consciously or unconsciously-evolutionists, constantly co-creating, regenerating, transforming and emerging through application of the laws governing the universe.

To accelerate your magnetic frequency and manifest your vision for your life, you must enter the laboratory of your own mind and soul and evolve through 3 domains:

1)    discovering, activating, expressing and promoting your gifts, talents and skills, which attunes you to the law of divine right action;

2)    moving into a deeper spiritual understanding and practice of working with the laws governing the universe through affirmative prayer, Life Visioning*, and visualization, which attune you to the law of attraction;

3)    practicing meditation and surrender at such a depth that you no longer need to “attract” anything because you live in alignment with the law of radiance which automatically provides all that is required to sustain you and cause you to flourish.

You can read the complete article here

(By the way, in step 2 Beckwith mentions visioning and visualization. Two potent “tools for transformation” that focus on the visioning process are my workbook Vision Writing: Composing & Creating the Life You Were Meant to Live  and Mind Movies.)
